A year of artistic and professional growth
2024 has been an outstanding year to both grow as an artist and also as an entrepreneur. This year so far has presented me opportunities to exhibit my artwork in different locations. This August 2024, three of my paintings were in the Dominican Republic at the Centro Cultural Perello museum. It is exciting to see my artwork cross borders and expand into new locations. This month of September, my paintings will be on display at the University of Rhode Island for Hispanic Heritage. I am looking forward to updating my gallery page with photos of these exhibits.
On the business side of things, I have learned the value of connecting with other artists and professionals. Social media may make it seem like we exist in a bubble. However, if you fall into that trap, you will limit your world. It is important to actually connect with people. Not just like posts, or scroll past them. Instead to actually leave a message, send a direct message, and connect with people to develop professional relationships. You never know if someone has a connection with someone who could be your next customer. You may also be surprised to find out a friend may be your next client. Keep your eyes open and be adaptable to connect your business with others beyond a physical location or a social media page.
You won’t make a sale if people do not know that you are even operating a business. Seriously, post a lot about your business. Shout it to the four winds. Tell everyone you know about your business. That way you are letting them know you are open for business and they can have the opportunity to purchase from you. If they do not buy, it’s ok. It is better to get a no, than to have lost business because people do not know you are even providing services or products. Obscurity is the death of a business. So get out there and present your products and services. Always network with others.
